DRYER THERMISTOR OUT OF RANGE ERROR

Special Note: The tE2 Error has different meanings based on if the Dryer is a standard Electric/Gas model or a Heat Pump Model. Troubleshooting for both styles is described in the article below…

Standard Electric / Gas Models:

Cause

Temperature Thermistor is shorted or open reading.

Solution Check thermistor for proper resistance.

See details page for thermistor resistance value chart

Cause

Cold air coming into customer’s duct can cause the thermistor to read a very cold temperature

causing this tE2 error code.

Solution

If this is the case then use steam fresh cycle to warm up the sensor.

Winter Drying Performance / TE2 Error Code

Cause

Compressor discharge (Outlet) temperature thermistor is shorted or open reading.

Solution

Check thermistor for proper values.

Details Below:

If the unit is very cold follow these instructions on how to use Steam Fresh at low temperatures and avoid the tE2 error display.

  • Turn on the dryer.
  • Select the NORMAL cycle and press the START button to heat the dryer for 5 minutes before using the Steam Fresh cycle.
  • Wait 5 minutes for cycle to warm up the dryer.
  • Select the Steam Fresh cycle.
  • Press the “More Time” button two times then select the “big” option.
  • Begin Cycle.
  • Preheating the dryer prevents the tE2 error display caused by the dryer being too cold prior to using Steam Fresh cycle.

Also be sure to check the outdoor dryer duct cap for possibly being open allowing too much cold air to enter the unit when it is not being used.

  • NOTE: Steam Sanitary and Air Dry cycle cannot be used at the low temperature condition

Specific models may have 8 or 6 pin connector on main board.  Actual wire color at the thermistor located on the blower housing may have two red wires but will connect to yellow and blue on main harness most of the time.

HEAT PUMP MODELS ONLY

If the dryer model you are working on starts with DLH or if the dryer is part of a washtower model starting with WKH then it is a heat pump dryer.

The below information is for heat pump dryer models only.

Cause

Compressor discharge (Outlet) temperature thermistor is shorted or open reading.

Solution

Check thermistor for proper values.

See the diagram below to check the COMPRESSOR THERMISTOR. This thermistor has been drawn in RED.
